Town Police Log: Passenger Admits to Having Crack Pipe

Also among the week's arrests in Southampton Town, a Riverhead man drove without a license and court-ordered ignition lock and a Southampton man is charged with DWI, reports states.

Editor's Note: The following information was supplied by the Southampton Town Police Department.  A criminal charge is an accusation and does not imply a conviction.

Arrests by Southampton Town police east of the Shinnecock Canal June 3 through June 9:

Drugs

• Juanita J. Allston, 38, of Riverhead, was arrested June 9 at 11:16 p.m. at the intersection of Johnson Lane and North Magee Street in Tuckahoe and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. Police said Allston was the passenger in a vehicle while the driver was being charged with driving with a suspended license. According to the arrest report, when she stepped out of the vehicle she said she had a crack stem in her pocketbook. A crack pipe and crack rock were found in the purse, the report states.

Circumventing an Interlock Device

• Jovito Garcia, 37, of Riverhead, was arrested May 27 on Noyac Road in North Sea and charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and circumventing an interlock device, both misdemeanors.  Interlocks prevent a vehicle from starting if the driver has alcohol on his breath. Police said Garcia was pulled over because his passenger was not wearing a seatbelt. When his license was checked, it was discovered that it was suspended and he was driving a vehicle without the court-ordered interlock device, according to the arrest report.  The vehicle was impounded.

Driving While Intoxicated

• Trumaine S. Smith, 24, of Southampton, was arrested June 3 on Montauk Highway in Sagaponack and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and driving too slowly, a traffic infraction. Police said Smith was impeding traffic while driving east and when he was pulled over he was found to have slurred speech, glassy eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.
