Following a single-vehicle crash that sent his passenger to the hospital, a Southampton man was charged with driving while intoxicated shortly after midnight Saturday, according to police.
Dalton P. Van Nostrand, 21, was found to be drunk when he drove into a tree at the intersection of Parrish Road and Coopers Lane in North Sea, Southampton Town police said.
In addition to being charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, Van Nostrand was also charged with failing to maintain lane, a traffic infraction. He was taken to police headquarters in Hampton Bays and held for morning arraignment at Southampton Town Justice Court.
Southampton Volunteer Ambulance transported the passenger, who suffered minor injuries, to Southampton Hospital, police said.
