Hughes in his own words:

Dear Friend,

Thank you for taking a few moments to read this brief personal statement of my feelings and quite frankly the sentiment of many of the citizens of Southampton.

We want a government that is truly responsive to the majority of the citizens, not catering to those who are the most vocal and claim that they are the voice of the community. We want a government that is Honest, where transparency is not a buzz word, but a reality.  We want what our founding fathers designed, a government that is for and by the people. I encourage you to really examine the motivation of the candidate.

I am a man of unquestionable Honesty, Integrity and Commitment. I want to serve for the betterment of the community, putting the wants of you the taxpayer above all. In exchange for your vote, you will find a Councilman that will be working for you in and out of Town Hall on a daily basis. I will treat each one of your dollars as if it was my own, meaning we will live within our means.

My family and I have lived, worked and owned a home in Southampton for most of my life. In all those years I have been deeply involved in our community personally and professionally and represent many of you through several service organizations. I am a man, who will listen and enjoy working with others towards a common goal, but I am not a man with roaming values, I am a man of my word and will not compromise the integrity of your government or my own integrity to gain favor.

I know this deep and diverse community and I know it well.  I would be honored to have your vote.

Sincerely,

Bill Hughes
