Strassfield Unopposed in Southampton School Board Election

Water Mill resident's re-election is uncontested.

Incumbent Southampton School Board member Christina Strassfield is unopposed in her bid for a second term.

Strassfield, a Water Mill resident, is the only member of the seven-seat board whose term is up this year.

“In these difficult financial times, we must look to maintain costs yet keep the level of educational programming at the highest level,” Strassfield wrote in a questionnaire regarding the most important issues facing the school district. “We must all work together to attain this, community, parents and teachers.”

She told Patch Tuesday that she is running for a second term because her service on the board has had an influence on the education of her children and the children of the Southampton community.

Strassfield is the museum director and chief curator of Guild Hall Museum in East Hampton. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in art history and anthropology and a Master of Arts in art history, both from City University of New York’s Queens College.

In addition to her service on the School Board, Strassfield is a member of the Long Island Museum Association executive board and the LongHouse Reserve  Art Committee. She is also a former president of the Ladies Philoptochos Society at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Hamptons.

She and her husband, Paul Strassfield, have three children, Zoe, who is a Boston University sophomore and Southampton High School alumna, and Joseph and Peter, who are both sophomores at the high school.

The term will run for July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2017.

Strassfield was first elected in 2008, to a five-year term. Since then, voters approved shortening term lengths to four years.

The election and the vote on the district's 2013-14 budget will be held on May 21.
