Estate Section Condo Sells for $2.5M

Villas have ties to heads of Standard Oil and Atari.

A condominium in the estate section of Southampton Village that is part of a 1914 Spanish Revival-style villa designed by Long Island architects Walker & Gillet recently changed hands for $2.52 million, according to Douglas Elliman.

The condo, with three bedrooms and three and a half baths, is in the gated Villas complex on Old Town Pond, with private gardens by Central Park co-designers the Olmstead brothers.

The complex is sited on the Murray-McDonald Compound, which was once one of Southampton’s largest estates, the real estate firm stated.

Henry Rogers, the late head of Standard Oil, purchased a portion of the estate at the turn of the 20th century and built his staff quarters there, according to Douglas Elliman. Later, the property was sold to former Atari CEO Raymond Kassar, and he combined the units into one single-family home. Then in 2006, the building was divided again this time into six “ultra-luxury” units, the real estate firm stated.

“The Villas have a rare pedigree, and a very rare place in the modern market here in the Hamptons,” said Aaron Curti, the Douglas Elliman agent who represented the seller. “Condominiums are hard to come by on the East End, especially in the estates section of Southampton.”
