Southampton Firefighters Respond To Gas Leak

Contractor struck gas main on Monday evening.

A contractor struck a gas main on South Main Street in the village calling out the fire department on Monday evening

The gas leak was reported outside a residence on 322 South Main Street at 5:17 p.m., Southampton Fire Department Second Assistant Chief Chris Brenner said on Monday night.

Firefighters, along with National Grid, worked to shut off the gas.

At 6:25 p.m., the gas was shut off and the fire department went back in service.

No injuries reported and no evacuations were needed.
