Man Falls 12 Feet, Nearly Crushed at Construction Site
Worker in stable condition after fall in Water Mill.
A worker with Calverton company Reilly Windows and Doors is hospitalized in stable condition after taking a fall at a Water Mill construction site Wednesday — though his fate could have been a whole lot worse, according to police.
Southampton Town police said they were called to a residence at 1285 Flying Point Road at 8:15 a.m. on a report of a construction-related injury. The worker, Arthur Leudesdorf, was struck by an 18-foot-long glass window while it was being removed from the house and he fell more than 12 feet, police said.
The 3,500-pound window narrowly missed landing on Leudesdorf, according to police. However, he still suffered serious injury from the fall.
An ambulance took Leudesdorf to Downs Family Park on Flying Point Road, where Southampton Fire Department cleared a landing site for a Suffolk County Police Department medevac helicopter. Leudesdorf was then airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital.
Police said an Occupational Safety & Health Administration Office safety compliance officer responded to the construction site to investigate workplace safety.
