Incident Reports: Driving on a Golf Course & More

Also this week, residents reported having a Playstation 3 and a saltwater system stolen.

Crimes and suspicious incidents recently reported to the Southampton Town Police Department:

• A Southampton woman reported that on April 20, someone used her credit card to purchase two computers valued at $2,843.  The incident is being investigated as an identity theft case.  

• The caretaker for a Water Mill home reported on April 23 that someone had stolen a saltwater system for the homeowner’s pool.  

According to police reports, the caretaker had last been on the property on April 19 and worried at that point that the saltwater system, valued at $2,200, was missing. After calling a pool company to verify, police were notified. The incident is being investigated as a grand larceny.

• Southampton Town reported that someone stole three fence posts and damaged another it owns recently in Sag Harbor. According to an incident report, authorities believe the damage to be in response to the town’s recent acquisition of woodlands in the area. The incident is being investigated as petty larceny and criminal mischief, both misdemeanors.

• Someone drove onto Shinnecock Hills Golf Course on April 21 between 4 and 8 p.m., using an ATV to tear up the grass. The incident is being investigated as criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.  

• A Southampton resident reported that between 6:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on April 22, someone broke into his home and stole a Sony Playstation 3 and three video games, valued at a total of $280.  

Police reports state that the homeowner’s front door lock and rear window screen were damaged, and the incident is being investigated as a second-degree burglary, a felony.
