FLPG: Coastal Pond Ecology & Zoology

Peter Warny, a former ecologist with the Nature Conservancy and National Audubon Society, will provide an illustrated talk which will discuss the issues affecting coastal pond ecology in both rural and urban landscapes.  Pond origins, succession and productivity as well as exotic species, pollution and other factors affecting wetland plants and animals will be discussed along with rare and declining species of frogs, fish, reptiles, birds and mammals. Ecological concepts such as food webs, predators and diseases such as chytrid fungus, parasites and malformed amphibians will also be discussed.  Refreshments to follow! Meet at the Long Pond Greenbelt Nature Center, 1061 Bridgehampton/Sag Harbor Turnpike (directly following the FLPG Monthly Meeting at 6pm).  For more information contact 631-745-0689.
