The Water Mill Turkey — who recently moved from his namesake hamlet to Sag Harbor — has joined Twitter.
The turkey was living at the Water Mill Green for months, but on July 2 he was found with his legs bound in blue painter's tape. The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center took him to their facility in Hampton Bays, and he was found to have no serious injuries — just broken feathers. Then on Friday, he was moved to a quiet wooded area in Sag Harbor.
According to his tweets, he is yearning to return to Water Mill. "There are no cars to chase at my new home in Sag Harbor," @WaterMillTurkey tweeted on Monday morning. "I want to go back to the #WaterMill green. :-( #WallyTheWaterMillTurkey."
But Ginnie Frati, the executive director of the Wildlife Rescue Center, said Monday that the turkey is doing well since he was released in Sag Harbor, at the property of a center board member where a flock of turkeys roam.
"Our board member, Penny Moser, has been spotting him occasionally," Frati said. " He hasn't chosen to join the flock yet, but he looks really happy. She is putting out food and water for him."
