Southampton Post Office: Mow or Let It Grow?
When the Southampton Post Office moved to North Sea Road a couple years ago, it included a landscaping plan that was aimed at saving money and reducing environmental impact — but was also considered by many to be an eyesore.
The plan was to use native grasses and plantings that are suited for the climate in Southampton and therefore don't need to be watered. The plan did not include mowing the grass.
The village, as well as individual residents, have complained in the past to the U.S. Postal Service about the post office's appearance, and it has, as a result, been mowed before.
Now, the post office is looking overgrown again — though some would say the native vegetation, which includes wildflowers, is at just the length it should be and should remain in its natural state.
Do you think the post office landscape needs some care taking, or it should be left to grow freely? Leave a comment below.
