Chuck Scarborough Will Speak at Memorial Day Ceremony

Southampton Village parade begins at 10:45 a.m.

NBC 4 New York news anchor Chuck Scarborough, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, will be the speaker at Southampton Village's Memorial Day ceremony in Agawam Park.

Organized by the Village of Southampton Commission on Veteran's Patriotic Events, the ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, preceded by a short parade down Jobs Lane at 10:45 a.m.

Scarborough was in the Air Force for four years, from 1961 to 1965, specializing in intercontinental ballistic missiles, before starting his broadcast journalism career in Biloxi, Mississippi, according to the commission. He owns a home in Southampton Village on Lake Agawam.

The master of ceremonies will be William Jones, the vice chairman of the commission. Father Michael Vetrano of the Basilica of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary will give the invocation and Rabbi Rafe Konikov of the Chabad of Southampton Jewish Center will deliver the benediction.

Patriotic songs will be sung by Kristen Steinke and the Southampton High School chorus.

In the event of rain, the ceremony could be moved inside the theater at the Southampton Cultural Center on Pond Lane next to Agawam Park.
