Nina Beaty, Neighbor

I am an art therapist and my studio is just west of Main Street in Southampton. Four years ago, I moved back to NY from Chicago where I lived for most of my adult life. In Chicago, after receiving my master's degree in art therapy, I got my first big art therapy job at what was then called Cook County Hospital, a.k.a, the one in the tv show "ER." I worked with patients who had cancer and diabetes but mostly, men, women and children with HIV/AIDS.

Now that I am in the South Fork, I've been volunteering at Maureen's Haven using artmaking projects to strengthen social skills of the guests. In my studio, I am starting to take clients who have experienced trauma, have issues related to their body such as illness or poor self-image and also, those who are going through tough life transitions, -job loss, divorce, death of family member.
