Brian Kelly, owner of East End Tick & Mosquito Control (http://tickcontrol.com) and Southampton resident, is the East End’s first and only New York State licensed and dedicated tick and mosquito control specialist. He takes pride in his company motto, “We believe the solution should not be worse than the problem.” He lives by it each day as he protects residents’ well-being as well as keeping the East End clean and pristine. With an appreciation for the outdoors that began has a young child, Kelly embarked on a career that began as a tree care specialist and certified spray technician shortly after graduating from Dowling College in Oakdale. Working directly under the president of the New York State Arborist Association, Kelly treated some of New York State’s oldest trees.
Kelly came across an article on Lyme disease and the growing tick population on the East End that would lead to the next phase in his career. He realized that his experience working as a certified spray technician paired with an eco-friendly product to eliminate ticks and mosquitos could be of great help and in high demand. Kelly became immersed with researching the various kinds of ticks and products available, a responsibility he continues today. As a result, he developed an effective treatment program using a synthetic replication of what is found in the African Chrysanthemum plant (called Permethrin).
Once he discovered his winning solution, Kelly partnered with his father, Ray Kelly, to launch East End Tick & Mosquito Control in 1997. The company was the first of its kind, dedicated solely to tick control. Despite the suggestions by many friends to diversify his services, Kelly stuck to his original specialty and is now the East End authority on tick control, which has become a national epidemic.
Over the last few years, other companies such as landscapers, tree arborists, and general pest control companies have crossed over into this particular industry with add-on services. However, most of these companies lack the credentials that East End Tick & Mosquito Control offers such as the necessary and specialized equipment, full insurance, the Department of Environmental Conservation license, 20 years of Kelly’s extensive knowledge and alternative options to harsh pesticides. With East End Tick & Mosquito Control, homeowners are kept safe with the most effective and environmentally responsible treatment programs.
Kelly utilizes his teaching talents and love for education as he informs the public about the dangers of ticks and how to prevent tick bites while urging people to take simple precautions. Most recently, he was a featured speaker at “Tick Talk,” a local educational forum presenting a practical approach to the prevention of tick-borne illnesses.
