The department includes several companies and specialty teams, including Agawam Hose, Agawam Engine, Southampton Hose, fire police, hook and ladder, a rescue squad, water rescue team, rapid intervention team and a junior firefighter corps. The department has two substations, one on Hampton Road and the Shinnecock substation on the corner of St. Andrews Road and and Montauk Highway, across the highway from the Shinnecock Indian Reservation.

The central garage services all village vehicles, from police cars to highway department trucks. Public works is responsible for 55 miles of streets and sidewalks and 12 village beaches and maintaining village buildings, including village hall and the justice center. The superintendent of public works is Gary Goleski.
North Haven Village

North Haven is a 2.7-square-mile island settled in 1665, north of Sag Harbor. Driving through North Haven is the onlyMore way to reach the South Ferry to Shelter Island. The village is served by the Southampton Town Police, Southampton Town Highway Department and Sag Harbor Fire Department. The current mayor is Laura Nolan.

The village board meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m. at village hall. The zoning board of appeals, planning board and Board of Architectural Review & Historic Preservation also meet at village hall. The village has a small planning department and a part-time building inspector. North Haven Village Park is located behind the hall.
