The park was bequeathed to the children of Sag Harbor and is not managed by the village. It features baseball diamonds, tennis courts, field hockey fields, soccer fields and ample space for picnics. Hamptons Collegiate Baseball's Sag Harbor Whalers play at Mashashimuet and renovated the baseball field. There is no golfing, camping, digging, archery or flying of model aircrafts at the park. Bicycle riding is prohibited on the playing fields.</p> <p>Organizations or groups that wish to use the park must write to the Parks and Recreation Association, P.O. Box 1653, Sag Harbor, NY 11963.</p> <p>The playing field closes for the winter each year through April 1.</p>

It was given to Southampton Village by the descendants of Lewis E. Downs, the mayor from 1933 till 1937.</p> <p>In 1995, the baseball fields were dedicated as the James Allan Cameron Little League Stadium. The late Allan Cameron was a Southampton Village stalwart, with a hand in the Little League and many other community organizations.</p> <p>The playground is designed for 2- to 12-years-olds.</p> <p>The park may be used with permission from the Southampton Village Parks Department.</p> <p>To get to the park, turn south onto Flying Point Road from Hampton Road or Montauk Highway, and follow the signs. The park entrance will be on the right, before Downs Path.</p>
