A Riverhead fourth grade teacher arrested last month and charged with driving while intoxicated with a loaded handgun in his car pleaded not guilty to 11 charges in Suffolk County Court on Friday. According to Bob Clifford, spokesman for Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota, Joe Johnson, of Southampton, pleaded not guilty to all 11 charges in a grand jury indictment. Southampton Town Police Chief William Wilson tells Newsday the investigation could affect inmates.
The Southampton Town Police Department is re-examining two years of drug cases initiated by the now-defunct street crimes unit, Newsday.com reports. Police Chief William Wilson, who had his one-year anniversary on the job this week, told Newsday that the street crimes unit lacked oversight. He did not speak in detail about the internal review, citing an ongoing investigation by the Suffolk County district attorney office's government corruption bureau, according to Newsday. Bureau detectives seized police documents from Southampton Town Hall on May 9, supoenaed by a grand jury in connection with a criminal action against a "John Doe." Bridgehampton man cashed in on elderly woman's Accord after she died, police say.
A Bridgehampton man is accused of stealing a car that had belonged to an elderly woman who recently died, and selling it to an unwitting third-party. Southampton Town Police Department detectives said 47-year-old Bronte O'Neil was an acquaintance of the woman, whose 2010 Honda Accord was reported stolen from Shinnecock Hills Road West on April 15. Several weeks of investigation revealed that O'Neil sold the car, according to police. He reportedly received $5,400. O'Neil was arrested the evening of May 12 at police headquarters in Hampton Bays and charged with grand larceny in the third degree, a class-D felony. Police said he was held overnight then brought to Southampton Town Justice Court for arraignment and released on $300 bail.

A Connecticut man arrested in North Sea early Sunday morning faces drug and weapons possession charges. Southampton Town police said 25-year-old Nicholas Reisini was pulled over at 1:50 a.m. on Noyac Road for an equipment violation and found to be driving with a suspended license. Further investigation revealed he had hashish, marijuana and metal knuckles, as well as a digital scale, packaging material and a large sum of cash, all of which were seized, police said. Police said Collum was driving a 2002 Land Rover southbound on Division Street and “impeding the flow of traffic.” Police said she performed poorly on sobriety tests and was subsequently brought to police headquarters for booking and held for arraignment.
