It says Around Town but the headline is UTAH. Utah is not near Natick!! I think everyone should notRead More open an article on Patch unless they see their town's name in the headline. So If it doesn't say Natick, then we all know it is not LOCAL to the Natick Patch. The less clicks these Patch sites get, the fewer advertisers they will get and then perhaps they will realize if we want sensational news from across the country we'd go back to Patch's former owners AOL and the HuffPost! Those here from other Patch sites - I think you should do the same only click on articles that mention your community's name. No name. No click!

Dons Wife & AR...I guess this will be an appropriate intermission break for me...LOL...IRead More Listened to Dons wife's song link and it is a beautiful song and I listened to AR's song link for the first time and I believe it deals with the inner self’s searching for meaning, but maybe I’m wrong and I’m sure I will hear it from AR …LOL. We know there is a place to debate anything under the sun .I tried to keep my views within current events and activities regarding the NYS Safe Act. I believe in God and also believe in reason and science. I’m providing a song link that shows another way of looking at the inner self and the meaning of life, but I know it’s not the only way….. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBVAoc5uzEM.......

I consider Suzanne a beautiful song of love and search for redemption. Extraordinary that such aRead More prolific author, poet, composer, performer could suffer from depression and work through, as one discovers in his works. I think the lyrics, like much of his writings, is layered with meaning, allows the reader to find his/her own personal hook. I love the Jesus references, to me more profoundly eloquent than anything I've read of him in bibles and elsewhere. Yet I interpret the passages a person's search for meaning to life and finding such in the present as opposed to a wishful afterlife. The "perfect body" reference strikes me as very Buddhist. In may of his works, the stories turn to love and the women who "cared" for him, often unselfishly, with a reoccurring comfort in sexuality. The depth has gone much further, in my view, as he aged, often rewriting. He's in his late 70s and still tours, sells out 20,000 seat arenas to an audience that spans at least six decades. I think his "The Partisan" is the consummate anti-war lyrics. Harrison also found comfort and meaning in Buddhism.

When choosing colleges for you're kids do you wean out the biggest party schools in the country ?Read More For me the answer is definitly yes . Hoftra a great school and a greater commuter school .But like I said in my previous post its a party school for those who choose to party it is so easy . Sadly the facts show most freshman today to be immature and not capable of making rational decisions . Peer pressure comes into play and also the free feeling of being away from home . My desicion to not allow my kids to apply to Hofstra , were the stories they knew about from other kids and verifying pictures on Facebook . Agreed they will party , but most freshman's over consume and pay no attention to academics . No two are alike , for my older daughter academics is a prioty , she is graduating from Adelphi early , because she choose to work . Soon will be applying to graduate school . My youngest immature and non focused is finishing 2 years at Nassau and was excepted into 11 colleges ... Our choice came down to a beautiful Smaller University in New Orleans ... If you would have asked me 2 years ago to send her out of state I would have said no way . She was not ready . Today I say go and be careful of your choices . Not a guarantee .But you can bet we fought when I said no to out of state schools two years ago . Thank you Mommy came much later with her own growth . Nixed were the known party schools and good choices were made .I hope she continues . I had experienced much to my shock , the parents that choose to let their kids drink , starting in 9th grade , the endless parties they threw put me on the outs with them as the last Mom standing alone . In both my kids graduating classes I first hand saw a lot get thrown out for academic failure , but saw all their party posts online . Granted a parent really does not have access to grades in college we are left in the dark you have to take your kids word on that .Others sucessfully made it thru Freshman year , partying hardy . Some did not party and their academic acheivemnets well excel others .Choices both my kids have fast cars and tracking devices , yes I can see how fast they go and where they go . It does not mean they won't make bad choices , I was the party queen in college from my own mouth , I should have and could have made better choices . I parented both my kids through HS on chemo , you can bet there were nights I all but crawled to my car to find them and or pick them up from bad choices they made or could have . Mom come get me ! One of the best things I could have said to them " No matter how bad it is call me I will help you " What it really comes down to is this we can wean out , safety net , steer them in all directions but have no guarantee . But for the Grace of God go I , that is what my best friends father whispered in my ear when he overdosed in college . He came from a great home , had all the support and love a child could have . He made awful choices . I would never ever want to walk the path of the The Wynn family ... My heart goes out to them . Conner's life is gone there is no back tracking , no rectifying , no saving him . That is the sad part to die at such a young age is more then a heart could bare . His poor parents , how do we go on after such a finality ? I don't ever want to know . So Hi spy Mom is always lurking , and if I have to go out of state and make surprise visits I shall ... Keep your eyes on their road ! As best as you can . We can't blame anyone for a sad ending to a short life . We all have our own ... But for the grace of God go I and mine . It just makes me so sad for this family and young man . And yes Joanne there are just some schools in some places I would never send my kids , would you send yours into hell ? It's not a good beginning without a good foundation .We can start there . And it can be the safest place and the best school and still we have no warranty .

I just finished reading through that sleep study that you quoted in contemporary pediatrics. It wasRead More quite an interesting and enlightening article. However, it only supports your claims after you minimized the primary factors contributing to those sleep disorders; poor sleep behaviors, environmentals, etc. Eliminating/reducing of the hours of late night TV, computer use, cell phone use is their first and most important stimulant to curb. The electionic light exposure is the problem. Then secondly, comes caffeine based drinks; sodas, coffees, teas and pills. Yes, page three of the article does support your claims backed by studies but let's be real here. There are parents that don't even know their children are watching/creating porn on their (babysitting devices, a.k.a. ipads) instead of doing their homework in the first place! What you're clearly suggesting is beyond the mass majority due to a lack of their own span of attention/ mindless reality tv viewing/ slutty gossip magazine reading public. The family unit needs to be in order before you go and revamp the entire school district at great expense and inconvenience to all the working stiffs (working more than one job to make ends meet). When people start taking accountability for their own problems and still cannot yield the desired results, then bring up the study again over a cup of coffee. ;-)

This discussion should focus on finding what really works best to learn. Wake up call at 6 am forRead More high schoolers will change, as it's simply not required. Walking into a building for 6 hours a day to take classes in 40 minute intervals is absurd. Bombarding teens with data points on 6-8 different subjects per day needs review for efficacy. scallop scum: I’m not Catholic, and I do like an occasional beer. But I will no longer orderRead More Heineken or Guinness.Even before the Catholic League’s Bill Donohue called for a boycott of the beers that boycotted the St. Patrick’s Day parade, I decided to withhold my patronage from the panderers. The parade is meant to honor St. Patrick. Gays are welcome at the parade; they just aren’t allowed to advertise themselves as such with banners and flags. There are multiple gay pride parades where they can do that. The corporate brains behind Heineken and Guinness pulled their sponsorship saying they support inclusiveness and diversity. But, in fact, they are supporting homogeneity — they want every parade to be like every other parade — and every parade should have gay groups. Jim Johnson NYPOST 3/18/14

to Issy: Quote: "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come toRead More destroy, but to fulfill............Mathew 5.17" ------------------------------------------------------------------- Jesus IS the fulfillment of prophecy. As the Messiah, he ordained a NEW COVENANT. Those who claim that the Old Testament dictates are wholly applicable to Christians simply haven't read the NEW Testament critically. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issy: You didn't read the whole argument. Continue Matthew 5. The new covenant (which actually began with Jeremiah 31:31) is BETTER than the written Law. Jesus begins at Matthew 5:21 each remark with "You have learned that our forefathers were told" and then he goes on to state what the Law says and then what HE says. The Law says you can divorce your wife. Jesus says you can't. The Law says don't commit adultery. Jesus says don't even look on a woman with a lustful eye lest you commit adultery with her in your heart. The Law says you must be brought to judgment for murder. Jesus says you must be brought to judgment even if you nurse anger against your brother. Jesus says: You have learned that they were told: Love your neighbor, hate your enemy, but what I tell you is this: Love your enemies and pray for your persecutors, only so can you be children of your heavenly Father who makes his sun rise on good and bad alike. You took your remark right out of a context that completely invalidated it. Thanks for making my job so easy.

So apparently only you are allowed to spin the bible and allow yourself the godly right of ignoringRead More the parts you don't like, although Jesus was very clear that the Old Testament must be followed (but don't take his word for it)...................
