Weird News: Man Stuck in Drain; Blood Parties and Zombies

Some stories are downright strange. Here's our wrap-up from around Suffolk County.

As a local news organization, Patch covers stories of all kinds, from heartbreaking tragedies to inspiring tales of community brotherhood. But some stories are just plain weird. Here are some of the stranger headlines from the past seven days.

Man Stuck Down Drain

An employee at the Medford location of Sam’s Club dropped his keys down an 18-foot deep storm drain, and decided to go after them using a rope to climb down. The man got stuck down the drain and called 911 to be rescued. Ultimately, he did indeed reach his keys.

Blood Party?

Milestone birthdays are certainly a cause for celebration, think Caribbean cruise, gold watch or big party, but the guests invited to Wayne Fellrath's party aren't bringing a swimsuit or an elegantly wrapped gift, they're donating blood.

That Senator Can Sing

Chuck Schumer is known for his politics, but the U.S. Senator showed off his singing chops during Cow Harbor Day Sunday in Northport.

Not shy of the cameras, Schumer sang Paul Simon's "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard," to the crowd outside of Trinity Episcopal Church on Main Street.

The senator had some trouble remembering the lyrics at the beginning of the song, but got into the rhythm by the chorus.

We give him credit for getting up there, but after hearing the senator's pipes, we'll just say we're glad he has a day job.

Going Zombie

Any zombies out there in West Islip? Or wannabe zombies?

The Town of Islip is hoping to get enough resident zombies to help break the world record for the largest simultaneous performance of Michael Jackson’s Thriller dance.
