Coming Up: 'Sex: What She's Really Thinking' Opens Thursday in Southampton

Find out what's going on the week of Jan. 6.

Here's what's coming up this week: 

Monday

A Widows Support Group: W Connection chapters are based in local communities and are led by other widows. This meeting takes place at the Hampton Library at 4 p.m. These peer-led chapter meetings are a place where widows meet to discuss the topics and issues that have helped them adapt to their new lives.There is no fee to join but you must be a member to attend.  

LaBlast Dance Fitness Classes: Hamptons Dance Authority will hold a class at the Southampton studio. No partner or previous dance experience required. The classes take place on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:30 pm and Fridays at 6:30 pm. First class is free. 


Tuesday

Tai Chi with Carolyn Giacalone: Tai Chi with Carolyn Giacalone at Hampton Library starts Tuesday. Eight classes cost $80.

Memoir and Personal Essay Writing with Eileen Obser: Memoir and personal essay writing with Eileen Obser at Hampton Library is slated for Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. Workshop is $65 for 5 sessions.

Advanced Pilates with Carolyn Giacalone: Advanced Pilates with Carolyn Giacalone starts Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. Due to the advanced pace of this class, students must meet the requirements of the instructor to participate. Eight classes are $80.

Healthy Mind, Healthy Mood: Learn a variety of meditation and relaxation techniques to restore your sense of health and well-being at The Ed & Phyllis Davis Wellness Institute in Southampton at 6 p.m. The cost for this one-time class is $10 per person will be led by certified holistic stress management consultant, Kathy Malfitani, RN, B-C. This class is free for members of the East Hampton Wellness Foundations, Wellness ZONE. Additionally, there is no charge for Volunteer EMS, village police dept, SH & North Sea Fire Departments.  

Wednesday

Yogalates Series: This class combines slow controlled breathing and stretching of yoga with the core tightening and strengthening of Pilates at The Ed & Phyllis Davis Wellness Institute in Southampton at noon. Benefits include weight loss, increased metabolism, body conditioning and strengthening of core muscles within the chest, abs, back, and legs.  Classes are led by Kimberly Kluge. The cost for the six-week series is $75. 

Basic Spanish: Instructor Nancy Bagshaw teaches conversational Spanish at Hampton Library in Bridgehampton. Cost is $50 for eight sessions.

Bereavement Support Group: Join a safe, supportive, and caring bereavement group on Wednesdays, starting on Jan. 8, with Paula Peterson, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and an ordained Interfaith Minister at 5:30 p.m.

Hypnosis for Weight Loss: Albert R. O’Connell’s certified hypnosis techniques have helped many people attain and maintain their desired weight permanently. The cost of this one-time program is $75 (CD included) and participants can follow up with one free refresher course. Starting at 6 p.m., it is held at The Ed & Phyllis Davis Wellness Institute in Southampton.

Thursday

Hypnobirthing: The Mongan Method: HypnoBirthing, at The Ed & Phyllis Davis Wellness Institute in Southampton, offers childbirth education for couples who are looking for a gentle, relaxed childbirth experience. Price: $400 for five-week series. 

Toastmasters International: Develop and improve your communication, public speaking and leadership skills in a class at the Hampton Library at 6 p.m.

Sex - What She's Really Thinking: Center Stage at Southampton Cultural Center will present the premiere of Ilene Beckerman's, Sex: What She's Really Thinking, from Jan. 9 through 26 at SCC’s Levitas Center for the Arts. This new play, written and conceived by Beckerman with Center Stage director, Michael Disher. It will be shown on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Price: General Admission is $22. Students with ID $12, Seniors on Fridays $20.

Friday

This new play, written and conceived by Beckerman with Center Stage director, Michael Disher. It will be shown on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Price: General Admission is $22. Students with ID $12, Seniors on Fridays $20.

BINGO Night at Southampton High School: Bingo Night, sponsored by the Rotary Interact Club, will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the Southampton High School Cafeteria! Play for your chance to win over 25 prizes from local businesses. All proceeds go to Maureen's Haven. All ages welcome. Bring your own BINGO chips. Price: $5 entry fee includes one board, $2 for each additional board, $1 snacks/drinks will be sold. 

Saturday

Southampton Democratic Club Breakfast: The Southampton Democratic Club Breakfast will be held at Southampton Publick House from 10 a.m. to noon. The topic, "How To Make Students Hate School and Teachers Hate Their Jobs:  The Testing Catastrophe That Has Descended Upon New York State." Dr. Mark Naison, a professor of African American Studies & History at Fordham University, will speak. RSVP. 

CMEE PLAY! Chicken Burritos: This month, Chef Alan has a tasty Tex-Mex meal planned for cooking class at Children's Museum of the East End in Bridgehampton at 10:30 a.m. Children can prepare the fixings to build their own chicken burritos, and make fresh salsa and guacamole. Price: Members $15, Non-Members $25 (includes admission).

Southampton Animal Shelter's Low Cost Spay/Neuter Mobile Clinic: The SASF is offering low cost spay/neuter and vaccination services at the Shinnecock Reservation Community Center in Southampton, starting at 7 a.m.
