Southamapton Hospital Launches Tick-Borne Diseases Resource Center

Because of the proliferation of ticks on the East End, residents have many concerns about about tick-borne diseases. To help combat these concerns and threats Southampton Hospital has launched a Tick-Borne Disease Resource Center with a mission to educate the public, promote collaboration in the medical community and facilitate access to diagnosis and treatment of Lyme and other tick-borne diseases.

To introduce the new resources available through the Southampton Hospital Tick-Borne Disease Resource  Center the hospital is hosting a free panel discussion on Saturday, June 7 at 10:30 a.m. at Parrish Memorial Hall, Herrick Road in Southampton.  Space is limited.  To reserve a seat, call (631) 726-0452.

Too many residents of Eastern Long Island have contracted tick-borne diseases. We are all too familiar with Lyme, but ticks can also carry other diseases—anaplasmosis, babesiosis, ehrlichiosis, spotted fever, and tularemia.

The hospital has assembled an advisory panel of doctors and medical professionals across nine specialties that can help identify and treat any of the many tick-borne diseases that come from tick bites. On the staff of the resource center are medical professionals in family practice, internal medicine, infectious disease, allergy, pediatrics, emergency medicine, neurology, psychology, and rheumatology. Their collaboration and collective experience and knowledge will improve their ability to identify and combat the affects of tick-borne diseases and educate visitors to the center on prevention and treatment options for local residents and visitors.  In addition, a dedicated “help” line, (631) 726-TICK, is in place.
