Rain Doesn't Stop Kites for a Cure at Coopers
Seventh annual kite fly against lung cancer carries on despite disagreeable weather.
Despite rain and cold Saturday, the seventh annual Kites for a Cure at Coopers Beach carried on.
The kite fly to benefit Uniting Against Lung Cancer has always been held during Memorial Day weekend, and this is the first time that foul weather has put a damper on things.
"We figured the day would come," event chair Roxanne Donovan said. "We knew Memorial Day was iffy."
After six years of great weather and wind, she said they could take one of rain.
Several participants tried to fly their kites despite the disagreeable wind, to varying degrees of success. Donovan said Kites for a Cure will have a "virtual kite fly" — participants are being asked to fly their kites on a more suitable day and post pictures to the Uniting Against Lung Cancer Facebook page.
