Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor hosted a private screening of the powerful HBO documentary about one woman's effect on 2,000 dogs.
Kennel space at the Southampton Animal Shelter will be used to introduce some of the dogs rescued from the Lancaser County (Amish) puppy mills.
A panel discussion followed involving Assemb. Fred Thiele, I-Sag Harbor, and Legis. Jon Cooper, D-Lloyd Harbor, with hopes to create legislation to prohibit the harsh practices locally.
Preceding the cocktail party, there was a special animal art exhibition at the DeMato Art Gallery on Main Street.
The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation is also holding a fundraiser , from 6-10 p.m., at the Boardy Barn in Hampton Bays. Admission is $25.
