Dachshund to Sign Books in Sag Harbor Saturday

Lily, a dog, will be at Sylvester & Co. to sign copies of the book based on the humanitarian missions she and her master take to Haiti.

Wings Over Haiti founder Jonathan Glynn and his flight companion, Lily, a dachshund, will sign copies of "Lily In The Sky With Kindness," an motivational children's book that tells Lily's story, this Saturday in their hometown of Sag Harbor. 

"Lily In The Sky With Kindness" was conceived and illustrated by Arkansas folk artist Jayne Lakhan, telling the tale of the events that led up to Glynn and Lily embarking on humanitarian missions to Haiti and building housing and a school for the children of Croix-des-Bouquets, an impoverished region north of Port Au Prince. Lakhan donated her services to produce the book, after learning of Wings Over Haiti in the media, according to Glynn.

Glynn, with Lily at his side, flies plane-loads of donated medical supplies, shoes, clothing and building materials to Haiti.

“It takes a $350 donation to feed and educate on child per year,” Glynn said. “We’re reaching out to our community to help their community. We’re feeding 75 people a day and hope to continue to teach the children by building a self-sustaining, permanent structure. Once you hear their stories, it’s easy to want to help. Through community events like these we’re hoping to gain support for our ongoing efforts.”

During the book signing and reception Saturday evening at , Lily will mark books with her paw print, and members of Karma Kids, a Sag Harbor-based youth group dedicated to philanthropic endeavors, will deliver readings. has donated wine for the reception.

Sylvester & Co. will donate 25 percent of the proceeds of the sales over the holiday weekend of their heirloom Good Dog bowls to Wings Over Haiti's campaign to raise $70,000 for the completion of a new school.

Copies of "Lily In The Sky With Kindness" will be available for a minimum donation of $20, with proceeds benefiting Wings Over Haiti. Prior to the signing, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at in Sag Harbor, a companion community event will take place, dubbed “Hamburgers for Haiti.” And between 2 and 4 p.m., Lily and Glynn will give a reading at .

The "Lily In The Sky With Kindness" book signing and reception is Saturday, Nov. 26, between 5 and 8 p.m. at on Main Street in Sag Harbor.
