ARF Thrift Shop Transforms Into Designer Showhouse

The Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons Thrift & Treasure Shop in Sagaponack will be transformed during Memorial Day weekend into a designer showhouse, with rooms arranged by top interior decorators using items that have been donated to the store and pieces from the designers' own collections.

The furniture and home goods will all be for sale during the weekend, plus a preview cocktail party with the designers is planned Saturday, and adoptable dogs and cats will be on hand.

“The idea that there are endless new opportunities for things which once seemed old is an important theme for this evening," event chair and interior designer Sandra McConnell said. "The thrift shop is an amazing space and we’re hoping our designs help showcase how thrift store pieces can be used creatively in any home."

The proceeds of the party and the showhouse benefit ARF in Wainscott and the nonprofit's animal rescue efforts.

Seven designers put together seven distinct rooms: Elizabeth Dow, James Huniford, Ann Madonia and Susan Madonia, Annie M. Napoliello, Barbara Ostrom and Preston Phillips.

"We salute the designers who have brought such creativity to their assignment, and look forward to seeing everyone," ARF Executive Director Sara Davison said.
 
Saturday's cocktail party features a vodka bar, wine donated by Channing Daughters in Bridgehampton and hors d'oeuvres donated by by the Dancing Gourmet.

Admission during a preview hour at 5 p.m. is $250. General admission from 6 to 8 p.m. is $150.

The showhouse will then be open to the public on Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a suggestion donation of $10 per adult. Children's admission is free.

According to ARF, the thrift shop is responsible for funding 20 percent of the organization's annual budget.
