Support lung cancer research while getting a healthy workout.

Summer in Southampton means a lot of things: sunny days, relaxing on the beaches, boutique shopping. It is also the perfect time to give back by supporting charitable causes. A number of annual summer events make this easy to do.

One such event, the 6th Annual Strides for Life fundraising race for lung cancer research will take place around in Southampton Village on Sunday. Starting at 8:45 a.m., this 3-mile fun run/walk offers an opportunity for the whole family to get involved and support the fight against lung cancer. Registration and the race start at the located at the intersection of Pond Lane and Jobs Lane.

Sign up online or register on-site Sunday starting at 7:45 a.m. Adult registration is $40 plus a minimum of $50 fundraising in the form of donation or pledges. Children 18 and under are $15 plus a minimum of $50 fundraising (donation or pledges). For kids ages 2 to 10 years, there will be a 50-yard dash on the Green. The 50-yard dash is free.

If you can't join the fun run/walk this year, you can still make an impact by donating to lung cancer research on the Lung Cancer Research Foundation website or sponsoring someone you know who is taking part in Strides for Life. Don't forget to put this event on your calendar for 2012.

Strides for Life is hosted by the Lung Cancer Research Foundation and represents the largest annual fundraising event on Long Island for lung cancer research according to www.lungfund.org.
