School News - Week of May 19-23

The Tuckahoe Student Council would like to invite ALL veterans and active military personnel to join us for a light lunch and presentation Friday, May 23rd at 12:45 p.m.  Following this lunch our Pre-K and Kindergarten students will be performing a few songs for our special guests!  This past Monday, May 12th, Elementary Science Coordinator, Jennifer Pascual, took Mrs. Voegel and Mrs. Collins’ third grade classes on a science exploration at the Sebonack Golf Club.  Here students were able to compare and contrast crayfish habitats.  Students observed a natural crayfish habitat and took notes in their journals to use for further comparison to their in-class crayfish habitats.  Third graders also collected various samples and used the metric measurement skills they have been working on throughout the year to estimate and measure the length, width and mass of their objects.  On Wednesday, May 14th, Tuckahoe’s National Junior Honor Society students went to New York City to see the show, “Wicked.”  On Friday, May 16th, our sixth grade class went to the Long Island Science Center to learn to build Balloon Powered Vehicles.  During this challenging and creative program, “BALLOON POWERED VEHICLE: The Study of Physics”, Mrs. Sicari and Mrs. Gray’s 6th graders will build their very own vehicle powered by a balloon motor. Using the concept of Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion these students will also design, hypothesize, build and test their vehicle. The object is to build a vehicle that rolls both straight and far.  Support Tuckahoe’s Relay for Life Team!  Fight back cancer and have some fun!  Tuckahoe’s Relay for Life Team will be having the following fundraisers:  a Chinese Auction on Friday, May 23rd at 7:00 p.m. at Southampton High School.  For further information, please contact Justine Charos at 283-3550 ext. 112 or our school nurse, Wendy Meyer at ext. 313.  Our Spring Concert Dates this year are Tuesday, May 20th, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. for grades Pre-Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd & 3rd; and Thursday, May 22nd at 6:30 p.m. for grades 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8.  Student Council is hosting the St. Baldrick’s Foundation Fundraiser on Tuesday, June 24th beginning at 10:00 a.m. on the Tuckahoe school grounds.
