School News - Week of March 3-7

Mark your calendars!  Tuckahoe PTO will be hosting its Bingo Family Fun Night on Friday, March 7th.  Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and games begin promptly at 6:30 p.m.  Flyers will be sent home in the children's folders.  For more information contact Gina at 875-0077 or tuckahoepto@hotmail.com .  English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for adults will be held on Mondays and Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. at Tuckahoe School.  The first began in January.  All are welcome!  Save the Date!  The event everyone looks forward to... “Taste of Tuckahoe” has been set for Friday, April 25th.  Visit tasteoftuckahoe.com for information as it becomes available.  Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten registration for residents of the Tuckahoe Common School District has been rescheduled to Wednesday, March 12th and Thursday, March 13th, 2014 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Please call the main office to schedule an appointment at (631) 283-3550 ext. 301 or 302.  To be eligible for Kindergarten, a child must have a birthdate between 12-01-2008 and 11-30-2009.  To be eligible for Pre-Kindergarten, a child must have a birthdate between 12-01-2009 and 11-30-2010.  Parents are required to bring birth certificates for their children along with immunization records, a copy of their latest physical, two proofs of residency—if you are currently renting, a lease agreement and if you own your home, a current tax bill will be accepted as proof of residency along with two (2) forms of identification with your name and the address of the residence on it (for example:  driver’s license, cablevision bill, LIPA bill, pay stub, bank statement).  Note:  It is extremely important that parents with children who are eligible for Pre-K and Kindergarten make every effort to register them on this date.  If you know of a neighbor or friend who lives in Tuckahoe and has a child eligible for these programs, please make them aware of this date.  A blood lead level is requested for all Pre-K students as per New York State guidelines.  This is a routine blood test that may have already been done.  Please check with your child’s pediatrician.
