School News - Week of Feb 17-21

The Patriot's Pen program is open to students in grades 6-8, who are enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program in the United States and its territories. The theme for 2013-2014 was: “What Patriotism Means to Me”.  Students are asked to write an essay with no less than 300 words and cannot exceed 400 words and should be submitted to their local participating VFW Post.  They must show a thorough knowledge of the theme in their work and demonstrate they have researched the issue extensively. They must answer all relevant facts about the theme such as the “who, what, where, when and why” and relate the theme to their own experiences.  We are proud to announce seventh grader, Connor Rozzi, was awarded First Place in Suffolk County and the District (Suffolk, Nassau, Queens & Brooklyn Counties).  Eighth grader, Madison Platt, was awarded Third Place in Suffolk County and Fourth Place in the District.  The Suffolk County Award Ceremony will take place on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the Medford VFW Post, 507 Long Island Avenue, Medford, at 6:30 p.m.  Congratulations Connor Rozzi & Madison Platt on a job well done!  Tuckahoe’s 7th Grade Class is sponsoring a Tuckahoe Winter Carnival at SYS (Southampton Youth Services) on Friday, February 28th at 6:30-8:30 p.m.  Admission is $7.00 per person or $25.00 per family; tickets available at the door.  There will be carnival games, laser tag, jump castles, Chinese auction, prizes, food and beverages for purchase.  This is not a drop-off event.  Proceeds will go to support the Class of 2015.  English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for adults will be held on Mondays and Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. at Tuckahoe School.  The first began on Monday, January 13th.  All are welcome!  Our PTO will be having its annual Family Bingo Night on Friday, March 7th…..more details to follow.
