Save the Delicious BBC at Cyril's

Quite the political football these days in East Hampton is the status of Cyril's Fish House on the Napeague stretch of Route 27. On sunny weekend afternoons there is no doubt statutes are broken in the general area of the establishment. Many locals are demanding action and the new Town Board is delivering, making some wonder if the place will ever open or be a shadow of what it was, if it does open. Missed in the debate is why hundreds of people flock to this undistinguished out of the way location on weekend afternoons. Here is my answer.

It is because the BBC, the Bailey’s Banana Colada. Made right in front of you with a real banana, ice and Baily’s. The drink is heaven on a hot summer’s day. It is like a banana milkshake after work. It is the perfect after beaching drink. Others all over the Hamptons have attempted to copy it but no one has. People in huge numbers go there because it is that good.

The food served at Cyril’s is edible when hungry; the view of dusty Route 27 is not scenic, but the BBC is a home run. I want Cyril’s to reopen because 4-5 times a season, usually during the week, I stop there for a cold BBC. As for the other issues, People vote with their actions. They want to be there. A part of the reason they visit East Hampton is to go there. Should safety laws be enforced? Absolutely….but I want my BBC!
