What started as a vision of Robert and Susan Fisher 31 years ago has manifested itself in a Hamptons tradition concerning tasteful home furnishings.
Jennifer Jiras, of Sag Harbor, (graduate of Pierson High School) has spent 31 years herself at Fishers in Sag Harbor. She is a prime example of why at Fishers the customer gets a consistent high level of quality, service and attention. After the renovations at the 144 Main Street, Sag Harbor store were completed, Ms. Jiras was all smiles as she explained how Fishers has gone “green.” Using eco friendly organic fabrics along with Forest’s certified recycled barn board frames the whole new direction of Fishers is in line with national green movement. Jennifer Jiras flashed a sincere proud smile as she explained the barn board frames have, “great patina, a rustic finish.” One look and I saw exactly what she was talking about, I love the rustic barn board look.
Robert Fisher creates tables. He creates tables to order, from whatever wood or material the customer wants it to be. He will make it any size, and shape, any height and do it with the same skill that once had him as one of New York’s premier antique table restorers so many years ago. Many customer are repeat customers who come back to have Robert create another table of high quality and originality.
With so many fabrics imported from England it is fun just to see and feel the texture, patterns and colors of the select fabrics on display. The famous Belgium linens at Fishers are a must. Jennifer mentioned Bella Notte linens and Lee Industry upholstery as high quality products she was proud to recommend to the valued customers who flock to Fishers regularly to restock their summer homes, rental homes, or all year round residences. Jennifer explained that both Robert and Susan Fisher have focused on the reality of the “eco-conscience style, still cottage, but clean cottage, with a renewed focus on recycled materials.”
In this spirit the renovations have new “green” carpets, a clean new outside façade, and larger windows for better viewing and more natural light. Even the newly installed track lighting is “green.” The whole experience gives your home the potential for a “clean fresher look.”
I watched some customers come in. Jennifer knew them by name and remembered what they bought the previous year, after showing them the linens that they had purchased the year before she recommended a tasteful change in pattern, which both husband and wife agreed was a super choice. In no time the couple was out on their way to their next chore.
While this was happening I was admiring the wonderful eco-friendly rugs that are stacked across from the check out counter in great fresh colors with all different sizes and fabrics. The interior of the store creates a special feeling for just being in the shop. The beddings used in the display are so inviting and very pleasant to look at. It reminded me of the one time my daughter Schuyler tucked herself in a display bed and took a nap while her mother shopped. I am not so sure the owners of that shop thought Schuyler’s adventure was as cute as I did.
If you like smart tasteful pillows then Fishers is the place for you. The stitching is superb, the craftsmanship top notch. When I asked Ms. Jiras about these items she mentioned that Fishers has maintained the same vendors for the last 31 years and she should know having been there the whole 31 years.
She explained the original Fishers Home Furnishings was across the street years ago. Then Robert and Susan purchased the 144 Main Street location and committed for the long haul of serving the Hamptons community with their unique expertise. It is a place where you get seasoned expertise, because at Fishers they have the ability to make your concepts become realities with precision, taste, value, and quality.
