Matt Lauer, Please No Jerry Sandusky

Please keep Jerry Sandusky off the airwaves.

This is just plain wrong. Matt Lauer and his collapsing ratings may be the very reason NBC will air an interview with Jerry Sandusky, who is at the apex of what is wrong with so many things.

This interview will happen on Monday’s "Today Show." Giving this convicted individual airtime to extend his lies, (“I didn’t do these things,”) is yet another reason to perhaps rethink what networks do when they are desperate for ratings.

East End publications love to cut Matt Lauer a lot of slack because he has that large wonderful property on Deerfield Road in Water Mill that helps to add value to a recovering real estate market. But parading and promoting an “Interview with Jerry Sandusky,” the former Penn State football coach, is horrible.

Perhaps a roundtable of the boys/young men who are his victims might be appropriate, but most likely that would be a ratings killer.

It’s time to shut down Mr. Sandusky's ability to lie on national TV. Perhaps it's time to stop his denial of the crimes he was convicted of doing. His narcissism knows no limits to shameless behavior. The damage he has done in lives and in financial cost to Penn State is terrible. Putting this monster on the air to bolster Matt Lauer’s falling ratings is not a public service, but a disservice. Put Mr. Sandusky in his cell, and throw away the key.
