Now that my good friend Jennifer Maertz has been defeated easily in the Democratic primary for State Senate by Bridget Fleming, an incumbent of the Southampton Town Board, I turn to the larger question.
Can Bridget Fleming defeat incumbent State Senator Ken LaValle?
He is an East End legend and even has a stadium named after him at Stony Brook.
Truth be known in politics anything is possible but I wonder who East End political wizard State Assemblyman Fred Theile is favoring?
It must be noted that Bridget Fleming has quite a following in Southampton Town. She is smooth in debates and quite frankly, is well liked. Will she be able to tumble down the statue like accomplishments of Ken LaValle over 35 years with a grass roots campaign?
Mr. LaValle is popular too. He has a whole legion of loyal followers whom he has cultivated. Will this contest be a blowout, a close race or an upset. I can argue for all three logically. Will the Altschuler-Bishop contest for congressman, along with the Obama-Romney presidential scrum effect this race ? Who wins all three and why? I have my favorites, but they do have to count the votes to declare the winners. What do you think?
