Just 4 years ago the Republican conquered East Hampton Town politics with Bill Wilkinson, Dominic Stanzione and Theresa Quigly standing tall on election night and acting arrogant their first few town board meetings. In a Bizarre twist of fate the trio that perhaps saved East Hampton Town are all out of power just 4 years later. Newly elected East Hampton Town Supervisor Larry Cantwell will have a tough act to follow because Former Supervisor William Wilkinson quite frankly saved East Hampton Town from fiscal chaos yet Wilkinson was rewarded by basically being asked not to run for re-election. No doubt in short time Kitty Merrill and Rick Murphy will find issues and policies to turn Mr. Cantwell into Bill McGintee and Bill Wikinson. They are the best at demonizing supervisors.
In Southampton the Republican hold on the Town Board of almost 30 years is over. With Supervisor Throne-Holst and newly elected Brad Bender along with incumbent Bridget Fleming making a new majority expect fundamental change in the next Town of Southampton Budget. I just can't believe how the wind of political change has swept both towns to the Democratic party way of doing things. However it is one thing to win and another to govern, ask President Obama about that.
Finally congratulations goes to East Hampton Democratic Chairperson Jeanne Frankl for reorganizing the party in just four years and in Southampton to both Joy Flynn, the president of the Southampton Democratic Club, and Gordon Herr, the chairman of the Southampton Town Democratic Committee they have harvested the plan of SH Democratic Committee Chairman Michael Anthony who first launched a voter registration plan just 10 or so years ago.
