Tumbleweed Tuesday Is Near - How Do You Feel?

Can't wait for the summer to be over? Or are you dreading the end of the season?

The first day of fall this year is Sept. 22, but on the South Fork the day that really signals that summer is over is Tumbleweed Tuesday — the day after Labor Day.

Tumbleweed Tuesday gets its name because after a flurry of activity all holiday weekend long, and all summer for that matter, the Hamptons practically becomes a ghost town overnight.

Summer renters and second-home owners head back to the city. Many businesses and restaurants will go inter hibernation until Memorial Day. And its possible to find a parking space on Main Street again.

Some locals let out a sigh of relief when Tumbleweed Tuesday comes, but for others it only harkens boredom. For yearround business owners, it means the cash drawers won't open and close as often. And for kids, it means its time to go back to school.

Whether you are looking forward to it or not, leave a comment below sharing how you ring in the off-season. And please vote in our poll.
