Scattered Power Outages Across the Hamptons

With steamy temps and air conditioners blasting, some areas in the Hamptons are experiencing power outages. 

The Long Island Power Authority reports that while it has more than "sufficient capacity to meet customer's needs, excessive heat and the resulting high demand for electricity can place an unusual strain on electrical equipment that may cause localized outages. 

As of 3 p.m., 163 are without power in East Hampton; 20 in Southampton in the hamlet of Hampton Bays; and scattered outages, affecting less than 5 customers in Quogue and Westhampton Beach. 

Across Suffolk County, LIPA reports that there area approximately 5,100 without power, mostly customers on the North Shore where a thunder storm is rolling through. In Wading River, a lighting strike caused 82 power outages at 2 p.m.
