NYC to Montauk Bicycle Road Rally Denied Necessary Permits by East Hampton

A planned Manhattan-to-Montauk bike ride Saturday which has drawn as many as 3,000 riders in recent years has been denied the necessary permits from the Town and Village of East Hampton.

Worrying that the ride, which according to The East Hampton Star is organized by Glen Goldstein of Bicycle Shows U.S., would proceed without the necessary permissions the East Hampton Town Board sent an assistant town attorney to State Supreme Court in Riverhead to seek a temporary restraining order. The Star reports the decision is expected today, Friday.

The group bicycle trek has been popular and disruptive in recent years as thousands of cyclists leave Penn Station at 5 a.m. in the morning and then begin their 150 mile journey east to the cliffs of Montauk.

Goldstein is quoted in Newsday as being confident there is going to be a ride on Saturday but that he just doesn't know what it's going to look like yet.
