Last Chance: Pre-Register for Katy's Courage 5K

Second annual race to benefit pediatric cancer research and childhood bereavement is Saturday.

The Katy's Courage 5K, a race in honor of , a 12-year-old student who died in December 2010 of a rare form of pediatric liver cancer, is coming up Saturday morning in Sag Harbor and there is only a short time left for runners to pre-register.

Proceeds will benefit a scholarship awarded to a and student, a donation to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the creation of the first East End childhood bereavement center.

Registration and check-in will take place from 7 to 8:15 a.m. and the race will begin at 8:30 a.m. Both competitive and casual runners are encouraged to participate. Between 1,700 and 1,800 ran in the inaugural event last year.

Day-of registration is $30, but by registering online in advance runners can save $5. Go to http://bit.ly/z3H51i to pre-register for $25. The first 500 pre-registered receive a Tech Tee Shirt. The next 500 receive a cotton T-shirt.

There will be prizes for the top three overall male and female participants. Runners will start at 21 West Water Street, head north and make a right onto Main Street. Runners will then make a right onto Glover Street, run through the Redwood section of the course and finish back on Water Street.
