Hampton Classic Accepting Additional Lead Line Riders

The number of entries accepted is being bumped up from 100 to 125.

Having reached capacity for its two lead line divisions the earliest it ever has in its 36-year history, the Hampton Classic Horse Show announced Friday it will accept an additional 25 young riders.

The increased capacity brings the total number of lead line riders up to 125, and the opening day event has been moved from 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 28 to 8 a.m. to accommodate them. There two divisions: children ages 2 to 4, and children 5 to 7.

In lead line, leaders walk the horses while the young riders are judged on their equitation and knowledge.

The lead line competition will be held in the Classic's Grand Prix Ring and judged by three-time Olympic medalist and Show Jumping Hall of Famer Joe Fargis.

The Hampton Classic will be held Aug. 28 to Sept. 4 in Bridgehampton on 65-acre showgrounds on Snake Hollow Road.
