#80 - Experience World-Class Horsemanship at the Hampton Classic

It's show jumping at its best as Bridgehampton hosts top horses and riders in this annual event.

Each year the Hampton Classic brings together top competitors, from young riders to Olympic champs, contending for prizes in show jumping.

In its 36th year, the Hampton Classic Horse Show had to take the unprecedented step of because of Hurricane Irene. All of the tents and horse stalls had be so they wouldn't be destroyed, and then put back up as quickly as possible after the storm passed.

The Classic was supposed to have begun on Sunday with 125 young riders in the popular . Riders as young as 2 years old were to compete in the horse show's Grand Prix ring before the opening ceremony.

But now the Hampton Classic will get its start on Wednesday. You can download an updated schedule for the entire Classic at the Hampton Classic website.

General admission to the Hampton Classic is $10 per person (under 6 years old, free) or $20 per carload. Seniors enter free through Thursday and children are free on Saturday,  Kid's Day at the Hampton Classic. Parking for the show is free.

Reserved seats for the Grand Prix are $25 per person for bench seats in the grandstand (in addition to the price of admission) or $35 per person for premium center-section grandstand seating. More information about tickets is at www.hamptonclassic.com or call 631-537-3177.

The competition takes place on the Hampton Classic Horse Show grounds off Montauk Highway at 240 Snake Hollow Road in Bridgehampton. Full directions can be found on the Hampton Classic's website under Information.

Note: No dogs allowed in the grandstand. Children 2 years of age or older must have a ticket. Those under 2 must sit on a lap. Entire front row is a wheelchair platform accessible by a ramp. Wheelchair access tickets are $25; simply request Section A or B, Row 1.
