In an effort to make the senior year stand out from previous years, seniors are required to complete the Senior Year Project. The project spans the entire year, during which students are encouraged to choose a topic or field of interest to research and to engage in field work experiences. The hope is that the Senior Year Project will promote enthusiasm and curiosity by tapping into something that individual students are passionate about, while preparing them for college and the workplace.
One of the objectives for internships is to have the students become actively involved in our local community. This experience could take many forms, including working side by side or working independently under a mentor’s direction. Students are expected to experience at least thirty hours of hands-on learning, with the ultimate goal of college and career readiness in mind.
Southampton High School is looking for local businesses to partner with the Senior Year Project. Partners/mentors must be willing to take student interns under their wings and show them the various aspects of their business. Interns are not allowed to be paid and should not be used as employees. It is important that it is a learning experience that helps them to better understand that field.
Please take the time to consider the important role you can play in the lives of the high school seniors.
Generally, students will begin making inquiry phone calls to local businesses in late November in order to secure a placement for January. If you return this form, your name will be added to the directory.
