A day after the Southampton High School College Fair (held on October 16 during lunch periods), SHS will be holding the very first College and Career Readiness Day on October 17! The day will follow an alternate schedule and will allow students on all grade levels the opportunity to take important steps in preparing to enter college and career.
Freshmen will be participating in the Explore Assessment, a practice ACT, to familiarize themselves with the commonly-used college entrance exam. Sophomores and Juniors will be participating in the first PSAT provided for/funded by the district. This exam, a practice SAT, will not only give students invaluable experience for when they encounter the SAT, but is the qualifying exam for the National Merit Scholarship process. While only Juniors' scores will be eligible for this prestigious program that awards thousands of dollars of scholarship money to those students whose scores are among the highest in the nation, Sophomores can use this exam as a baseline to know how to improve their score when they take the PSAT the following year. Seniors will be participating in a series of workshops given by Southampton High School counselors and invited guests to help them prepare for college and career.
