Southampton Elementary School's 'Jump Rope for Heart' Raises Awareness and Funds for American Heart Association

Students in first through fourth grades participated in the school's annual Jump Rope for Heart event for the American Heart Association.

The sounds of heart-pumping music, laughter, and the unmistakable slap of jump ropes in action filled the gymnasium throughout the week of March 12 as students in first through fourth grades participated in the school's annual Jump Rope for Heart event for the American Heart Association.

Each year, SES participates in the event to raise funds for the AHA and raise awareness within the school and community of the importance of living a heart-healthy lifestyle. The P.E. staff educated the students on the health benefits of activities like jumping rope, the students collected pledges from friends and family members, and the AHA provided incentives in the form of prizes.

The students and Physical Education faculty set a goal to surpass last year's donation of $6,100 early in the process. Collection envelopes were distributed, the students went to work gathering pledges, and during the event week, the students dedicated their P.E. class time to jumping rope in a variety of fun ways. When all was said and done, the students turned in a total of over $6,500 to be given to the American Heart Association.
