After being appointed the interim principal of Southampton High School in July, Brian Zahn, Ed.D., is slated to be officially given the post at the Southampton School Board's Nov. 27 meeting.
In a letter to the community, Superintendent J. Richard Boyes, Ed.D., said that the appointment will be probationary and on tenure track.
Dr. Zahn, the Southampton Elementary School assistant principal at the time, was selected in April for the interim position to replace Tim Mundell, Ed.D., who stepped down to pursue a job as a superintendent or assistant superintendent elsewhere, according to district officials.
"He has learned a lot and done a lot during these past five months," Dr. Boyes wrote. "I have observed Dr. Zahn’s performance closely. Many staff members, administrators, students and parents have approached me on their own to express a high degree of satisfaction with his leadership, work ethic, approachability and enthusiasm. I have actively sought out the opinions of other people to hear their views. Dr. Zahn has earned a broad base of school community support."
Dr. Boyes said that Dr. Zahn has a clear and detailed vision for improvement and higher achievement at the high school. "It is time that we confirm our wish for him to continue his work and to accomplish his goals."
Dr. Zahn will have to resign his tenured appointment as the assistant principal of the elementary school to take the new post, Dr. Boyes said.
Michael Grimaldi, Ed.D. was selected in June to serve as acting assistant principal while Dr. Zahn moved to the high school. He previously worked as an assistant principal in Bay Shore.
