Young Writers Push the Envelope

High school playwrights put on 10 short plays at Stony Brook Southampton over the weekend.

Ten original short plays written by high school students were performed Saturday at the campus as part of the college's Young American Writers Project program, which is designed to nurture the creativity and talent of the next generation of playwrights.

One student's play was an outlet for his frustration over his school board canceling school plays and cutting back on the arts, while other plays dealt with death and teen suicide, 27east reports. YAWP Executive Director Emma Walton Hamilton told 27east that the young playwrights push the envelope, and what ends up on stage in their call.
