Whalers Are Class 'C' Champs

The Pierson-Bridgehampton boys defeat the Rockaway Rocks for the Long Island title.

After a dramatic pitchers' duel, the Pierson-Bridgehampton Whalers were the victors, 1-0, in the Long Island Class C Final on Monday at the Dowling Sports Complex in Shirley, reports.

Pitcher Colman Vila, a Pierson Junior, sent pinch runner Jack Fitzpatrick home in the seventh inning when the Rockaway Rocks catcher missed the pitch and Vila booked it for first base.

The Whalers, who went 18-2 this season, advance to the regional final on Wednesday.
