Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. on MSG Varsity, a team of 's brightest students will take on Bellport High School on "The Challenge," a quiz show for tri-state students.
Students Thomas Gallo, Natalia Baginski, Rory King, Tara Watson and Madison Mangano are representing Southampton. Baginski is captain and Mangano is an alternate. The academic advisers are Maria Clinton and Javqueline Hawkins.
"The Challenge" is hosted by Jared Cottet, a past semi-finalist on "American Idol." He'll quiz contestants on their knowledge of history, arts and literature, current events, math, and science in front of a live studio audience.
“Each season I am blown away by the students’ intelligence and their wide array of knowledge in so many diverse categories,” Cotter is quoted as saying in an "MSG Varsity" statement. “I’m really excited to get the season started and to see which teams are going to bring it.”
The top team in all of Suffolk County will win its school $2,500. The team will also go on to compete in the "Tri-State Showdown" for a $10,000 top prize. Individual students who compete in the championship game will receive $500 each.
Southampton's episode of "The Challenge" premieres Monday, Nov. 7, at 6:30 p.m. on MSG Varsity, Cablevision channel 14. It will re-air throughout the week.
