Southampton High Actresses Nominated for Teenys

Kayla Matters and Gwen Clarke get nods for roles in "Fame."

Two Southampton High School students are among the nominees for the Teeny Awards, a theater recognition program by the East End Arts Council.

For her starring role in the high school's spring musical, "Fame," Kayla Matters is nominated for Lead Actress in a Musical. For her "Fame" role as Ms. Sherman, Gwen Clarke is nominated in the Outstanding Performance category.

The 11th annual Teeny Awards will be held June 9 at Southold Junior-Senior High School. The ceremony will be open to the public and hosted by WPPB 88.3 FM radio personality Bonnie Grice.

INNOVATIONS IN THEATRE EDUCATION

This award recognizes the efforts of a school that goes above and beyond to support exceptional theatre arts education. This year, Bridgehampton High School is being recognized for its production of “A Night on Broadway: A Musical Revue,” which was a non-book musical written, performed and produced by its students and volunteer staff. This is the first theatrical production in the school.
