Southampton Grad Earns $8,000 Builders' Scholarship

Long Island Home Builders Care awards Skye Wiegman.

A Hofstra University-bound Southampton High School alumna will receive help paying for college thanks to Long Island Home Builders Care, the charitable arm of the Long Island Builders Institute.

Shinnecock Reservation resident Skye Wiegman is one of two young women to be awarded Tuesday with a scholarship of $2,000 each year for four years of school through the LIHBC Gregory Mancini Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The fund was established in memory of long-time LIBI board member Gregory A. Mancini, who died in 1993, according to LIHBC. The children and grandchildren of LIBI members and their employees are eligible.

"We are extremely proud of these deserving winners," LIHBC Chairman Charles Mancini said. “Our scholarship program is one of the ways that demonstrates Long Island builders care.”

LIHBC President Bradley Hemingway added, "We commend these young women for their success and we wish them all the best in their higher educational pursuits."

Wiegman was presented with her scholarship Tuesday at a LIBI meeting at Captain Bill’s in Bay Shore. She plans to major in linguistics and music, according to LIHBC, which stated that her scholarship application was sponsored by Riverhead Building Supply.
