Southampton Area Schools Will Have Delayed Start Tuesday

Icy weather forecast during the morning commute causes 2-hour delay for Tuesday's classes.

Southampton, Bridgehampton, Sagaponack, and Tuckahoe school districts will have a two-hour delayed start on Tuesday due to the weather forecast.

Schools will open two hours later, as will the buses, according to the Southampton School District.

Tammy Cavanaugh, the district clerk at the Bridgehampton School District, said classes will start at 9:50 a.m.

In Tuckahoe, classes will begin at 10 a.m., according to Linda Springer, the district clerk.

Sagaponack also announced a two-hour delayed start on its website on Monday evening.

During the overnight hours, closer to midnight, temperatures will drop to the lower 20s across most of the Island, except for the far East End, where temperatures in the upper 20s are anticipated. Then, around 3 a.m., an icy decline into the mid-teens is expected over most of Long Island, with readings of temperatures in the upper teens to the lower 20s on the East End.

A high of 15 degrees is expected on the East come Tuesday with some snow showers possible as cold air crossing over the Long Island Sound combines with the cold temps.
